1 Ash Street

Not too long ago... 3 of us decided to celebrate @initialjh's birthday at the Ash Street Cellar. Part of the Ivy complex, it is (of course) situated on Ash Street, which is a very Melbournesque back street, parallel to George Street.
At first it was only meant to be a celebratory drinks affair only, with maybe some nibblies... but a quick browse through the menu soon changed that idea...
Well... for me personally it was never to be drinks-only since I haven't had anything to eat yet that day, and I was in need of some feed...
Anyways, we ended up ordering proper food...
Sour dough - the way it should be- crunchy on the outside, soft and tender on inside. went perfectly with the olive oil and sea salt.
The celebratory drink
Prawns cooked in garlic butter & basil
Orecchietti with braised lamb, cherry tomatoes, chilli and basil. Off the March into Merivale menu
Ocean trout carpaccio with beetroot & ginger
The dishes were simply divine, and I have to say, to my surprise, quite filling. Of course, that didn't stop us from gazing across to the dessert menu, and the dessert that was on display in the window... hmmm... what to do??? Maybe we could...*gasp* share the dessert? That way we can have our cake and eat it too... ahahaha...
Amazing rhubarb pudding w ginger sauce
Tart of the day.
The desserts went wonderfully with the lovely, lovely latte...
It's not a Tarts post without a watch shot right? Here we have a Rolex GMT Master II, A Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra HomeTime, and a vintage Omega cushion case
It was a great place with a great atmosphere. The type of place to be if you want to feel Melbourne in Sydney. Or if you just want a great atmosphere with great wine.

What a feast! Love the must have "TART".
Thanks Ellie :) It was a sudden spontaneous birthday drink that turned into a meal. Lauren does lovely tarts and has a dedicated 'cake window'.
