THE BURGER :

Wagyu Beef Burger with caramelised onions, tomato, beetroot, cheese, aioli and lettuce, served with chips ($16.50)

It has been a while since there was a burger post by any of us, so it seemed, on this sunny Spring day, as good a day as any to have a burger to accompany the day's watch, the hefty horological timepice known as the Polaris, one of Audemars Piguet's Team Alinghi Limited Editions.

The Verandah Bar's burger is one in a line of numerous other wagyu burgers in Sydney.  We haven't even scratched the surface of all available ones, and in the end, in my view at least, wagyu or no wagyu, it will come down to the taste.

With a cry of "burgerlicious" by the Bar chef, lunch was delivered at the collection counter.

This is very much an old school type of burger in terms of its presentation and size. There's nothing delicate about it; it's big, generously sized, and filling.

The burger's description of 'lettuce' somehow morphed into rocket (another ubiquitous Sydney ingredient) some of which, unfortunately, was rather on the limp side. The beetroot, a historical staple of Australian burgers but not necessarily found in the city's wagyu burgers, was a welcome addition, the onions liberally supplied, and the aioli a nice change to tomato sauce. The patty itself was a little over-salted for my personal tastes (though not to a degree which rendered it too salty for eating) and perhaps could have done with a fraction less cooking time, but overall, a good solid burger.

Oh and the chips? Not bad.  Crunchy, golden, and a step above the average bar's chips.

AFTERWARDS :

A quick coffee, and the obligatory tableshot.

AP Royal Oak Offshore Polaris, Panerai PAM210 (on an ABP strap)

Casebacks.

Two very different watches, but both, coincidentally, with a link to Italy and to the sea, the Radiomir's design, of course, having its roots as the Italian Navy.  Which of the two do you prefer?

didn't realise the AP is such a big watch, just as big as the 45mm PAM210!

Burger looks great!

@HT : Sometimes you get what you pay for :) Well at least this burger came from happier cows.

@initialjh - Yes it is a large watch. Sits bigger (and obviously heavier) on the wrist than the PAM210.
