Continuing on her beef bender, Sibling1 wanted to have one more steak before heading back home to London. As it was a Monday, some places were not open, reducing our choices. Further reducing our choices was the fact that we had to take into account whether there was anything on the menu that would tempt the tastebuds of the 4yo & 6yo.

And so it was that we arrived at Kingsleys CBD Steakhouse, whose entrance is tucked away in a courtyard off King St.

An old style CBD steak joint, they it was a pleasant surprise when some pencils and colouring pens for the kids immediately appeared, though the highly gendered pictures left us somewhat resigned. Some sort of a Disney princess for the 4yo and this for the 6yo.

An old school steak meal naturally meant the Sinn U1

First up was the Entrée Plate To Share. This is priced at $29.50 for 3 dishes for 2 people, and $33.50 for three people. We had the plate for two people and selected the Flash Fried Calamari, Chicken Liver Pate and Beetroot Cured Salmon. It was intended as the entree for the kids but they only pecked at it so we finished the rest. The pate was okay, nothing special, the calamari a bit overcooked and the scallops somewhat of a surprise, but we decided that it was probably too much of a bother to ask for it to be replaced by the salmon.

My choice of steak was the Grassland Riverina Pasture Fed NSW Striploin 300g ($29.50), and despite all steaks being served with a red wine jus & your choice of chips, baked potato or mash, I also ordered Café de Paris Butter ($3.50).

Looks good, doesn’t it? Love the criss crosses on the steak. I’d asked for it medium rare but unfortunately it erred on the side of medium. This shouldn’t have matter all that much one would think, but I was left wondering, as was Sibling1, whether the steak would have been a bit better had it been a little less cooked. I don’t know what it was about this steak, but the taste just wasn’t as good as I had hoped it would be and well....I was a bit disappointed. I was also disappointed with the rather bland Café de Paris Butter and the chips, which were reminiscent of supermarket frozen chips. I was left feeling that the $9 steak and handcut chips that I get at the New York was somehow more satisfying.

Sibling1 had better luck with the Riverina NSW Eye Fillet Pasture Fed 220g ($35). It was more tender, tasted better, and her potato beat the pants off my chips. Probably because it’s harder to go wrong with a baked potato.

The condiemtns that came with the steaks :

The kids shared the Fettuccine with field mushrooms, truffle, parmesan & parsley ($27.50).

Not quite sure how much truffle there was exactly but they seemed to enjoy it, which is what mattered.

And here is one more for the road....

Oooh, the presentation's definitely there but it doesn't sound like they pay a lot of attention to what you order.

That's kind of worrying ..haha

receiving a medium steak when ordered medium rare is such a restaurant is not good. nice illustration! the platter reminds me of the Bavarian Bier tasting plate you get but of course has different dishes on it http://simonfoodfavourites.blogspot.com/2009/07/bavarian-bier-cafe-moore-park-21-july.html
