Guylian Chocolate Cafe

Sydney Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café
91 George St
The Rocks
Sydney NSW 2000

A sudden flurry of SMSs lead to three of us meeting up for an impromptu coffee. Two (G-Man and AP) had already had lunch together and parted ways to run errands, but P's unexpected availability lead to the triumverate meeting up at the Guylian Cafe. The location was chosen for no reason other reason that it was the nearest place to our meeting point.

Strangely enough, despite the fact that there were several people waiting, the Cafe chose not to open the upper area (which is in fact a more pleasant place than the lower one) until we turned up.

 Olympus E-P1

Two lattes were ordered.

Lattes aren't that exciting to photograph.

 Guylian shake
Praliné & vanilla ice cream with Guylian chocolate sauce ($9.00)

Attractive to look at, this shake wasn't as rich in chocolate taste as one would imagine it to be, given that we were at the cafe of a chocolatier. The chocolate shavings were a nice touch, and it was a refreshing pleasant drink, but I don't know that I'd say it was nine dollars worth of enjoyment.

Two of the three watches in attendance.  On the right is a late 1930s Rolex....

Two of us decided to share a dessert, and asked for the most popular item.

 100% Pure pleasure
Belgian chocolate & Guylian praliné enriched with coffee sponge & pannacotta ($13.50)

 Let's take a look inside....

The smooth exterior flecked with tiny dots of gold, this is a sumptuous dessert to look at, and its tasting matches up to its appearance in terms of richness.  There was no way that one of us could have finished this, given the level of sweetness but well, it was not quite what I expected from the description; the coffee sponge and pannacotta components could have been ahh....more pronounced, than they were. It was reminiscent of an intense chocolate mousse cake.

A second round of lattes later and soon it was time to part ways.....

Oh - the third watch present that day? It was an American brand called PyroLume, and there will be more about it in a post coming soon....
